Q. It's fascinating that you have taken images from your everyday life that just happen to pair well with old masters painted hundreds of years before! Is there a story behind this one?
A. Riverside Amusement Park was a favorite place for a Sunday outing and I went equipped with my camera gear. The image of the roller coaster was a very happy juxtaposition with the Velazquez. The repeated arches and the shades of burnt rose accentuate the fusion of the two elements. The line of the roller coaster echos the outline of the prince on the horse. The round form of a nearby ferris wheel seat, that somehow appeared on my viewfinder, is actually a happy accident. It echos the belly of the horse. Finally, the wooden boards on the roller coaster that extend in vertical, horizontal and diagonal directions contrast with the organic shape of the horse and rider.
