Tow Truck (Pitti Palace, Florence)
Pairing:
An interior view of the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy
Photo of Harold's tow truck in VT
Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 40" x 48"
Artist's Insights:
Q. This juxtaposition is startling. How did these two elements come together?
A. All the great masters aside, I just had to draw that truck when I saw it parked at a garage in Rutland, Vermont. I would worry about where to put it later. But, finding the right spot was not easy. I decided it had to go indoors. After exhausting all possibilities, I resorted to my slides from our stay in Florence, Italy. I spotted the Pitti Palace and smiled. It was a good fit but I wasn't sure I could handle all the detail in the masterpieces on the walls nor on the decorative moldings and ornate frames that accompany them. It was a challenge and I was honored that the painting was purchased by the Williams College Museum of Art in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
