I Want You (after Flagg)
Pairing:
I Want You for the US Army recruitment poster created by James Montgomery Flagg,
Images of comic book characters
Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 32" x 27"
Artist's Insights:
Q. This army recruitment poster is not an old master but it also carries with it a time-honored legacy to which the painting pays homage.
A. Yes, in the early years of World War II, I was a pre-teenager and a fanatical follower of all things military: newspaper articles, maps, radio broadcasts, etc. I kept a scrapbook of pictures and drawings. Flagg's poster image is not only embedded in my consciousness but, I daresay, resides with everyone who lived through this era. The image was posted everywhere. The comic characters are also from the same period.
Original for sale.
