Antique Car (after Modigliani)
Pairing:
The Artist's Wife by Amedeo Modigliani
Image of a vintage automobile
Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 28" x 36"
Artist's Insights:
Q. You have painted many vintage automobiles. What drew you to this black and white car?
A. As with a few other of my paintings with automobiles, I painted this before the Art Wheels series began. Technically, it does not fit into the series because the Modigliani figure is not driving the car. She is seated on a chair in front of the left tire with the spare tire nestled behind her back and her arm carefully placed on the front bumper, following the curve of the fender. The side view mirror serves as a large earring. The curves contrast nicely with the vertical lines of the grilles and the fluid lines of the front end, roof and running board. I especially enjoyed painting the reflected detail in the headlight. Take a look!
